Joplin Arts Fest welcomes mixed media artist Amy Kalimat to our 10th Anniversary show at the Cornell Complex. Her bold designs will be gracing our festival this September 20 & 21.

According to the artist: My style is abstract, fluid, free-formed and filled with colors and life. I work solely on watercolor paper. Depending on the series, work is created with a watercolor or Posca base. Subsequent layers are mixed media (crayons, ink, markers etc). Over the past several years I have been evolving a process and series I call “Blind Intuitive”. The foundation for each piece starts out blindly; eyes closed. It is a quiet process where lines, shapes and colors are internally guided by feelings, nudges and impulses. By initially removing my eyes from the equation, the judgements and preferences that come from seeing are removed and an inspired foundation is given birth.

The finishing portion of the “blind intuitive” process is my favorite part which is comprised of copious line and dot-making. This love recently birthed a new series called “Black and White.” Occasionally color is added, but the focus is on bringing my love for strong, but whimsical, linear design and dot-making front and center.
