Joplin Arts Fest is proud to announce the return of Kathryn Mustain to the 10th Anniversary show at the Cornell Complex in downtown Joplin. This previous award-winning mixed media artist can be found on the Leggett & Platt Green this September 20 & 21.
“The bulk of my works are a form of felted fiber. Felting is a process of causing individual protein fibers ie.wool, silk or alpaca fleece to become interlocked thus creating a matted (not woven) fabric. This can be accomplished by wet felting or needle felting.
Wet felting is a product of applying water, soap and fiber with agitation to join the fibers. Needle felting is the process of physically tangling the fibers with special barbed needles. Felt can be a 2 dimensional piece of fabric. The same basic process of felting can be modified and applied to the creation of 3 dimensional objects.”
