Joplin Arts Fest is proud to announce the return of ceramic artist Kendle Durden to the 10th Anniversary show at the Cornell Complex in downtown Joplin. The 2023 Best of 3D Art-Award Winner can be found on the Leggett & Platt Green this September 20 & 21.
“I produce two distinct bodies of work: a mainly black and white functional sgraffito line and a more unconventional collection featuring colorful and peculiar baby heads. The black and white pieces are wheel-thrown, covered in black clay, and meticulously carved to reveal intricate patterns in white clay. While occasionally accented with colorful backgrounds, the main goal is to provide users with functional art for everyday use.
On the other hand, my second line of work involves slipcasting, altering, and assembling ceramic baby parts. Although still utilitarian, the focus is on whimsical designs and surface embellishments. Each piece is one-of-a-kind, with a focus on exploring colors, screen prints, vintage decals, and overglazes. Many pieces also incorporate the sgraffito technique mentioned earlier for decoration.”
