Joplin Arts Fest is pleased to welcome back artist Randall Kronblad for his ninth straight year to our 10th Anniversary show at the Cornell Complex. Find his original pastels on the Leggett & Platt Green this September 20 & 21.

After a career as a registered Architect, Randall is now retired and lives in Bella Vista, AR. Art has been a lifelong passion of his and is why he began a journey into painting with pastels about 16 years ago. He is primarily self-taught and has attained Master Circle status with IAPS, is a Master Pastelist with MAPS and a Signature Member of both the Ozark Pastel Society and Pastel Society of America.

Growing up in the suburbs of Chicago as a “city boy”, Randall is fascinated with and
drawn to the contrasting rural landscape. His work focuses on the big shapes in nature, as well as how the strong morning / evening “light” and associated shadows define a scene. To him, “light” is magical; it is nature’s gift to us each day. He paints on sanded paper beginning most often with a gouache or watercolor under painting establishing his initial value pattern followed by the application of soft pastels, building up layers of color to create depth and luminosity in the piece. His goal is to allow the colors and vibrancy of the under painting be an incremental part of the final piece.
